Do we need land-cover data to model species distributions in Europe?
نویسندگان
چکیده
It is widely accepted that distributions of plants and animals are broadly constrained by their physiological tolerances to climatic factors (Woodward, 1987, 1990). This generalization is held to be true for species at a variety of spatial scales (Whittaker et al., 2001), although there is a wide recognition that the importance of climate is best expressed at large spatial scales (Rahbek & Graves, 2001; Willis & Whittaker, 2002). Following this recognition, bioclimatic models are being used Centre d’Ecologie Fonctionnelle et Evolutive, Centre National de Recherche Scientifique, Montpellier cedex 5, France, Macroecology and Conservation Unit, University of Évora, Estrada dos Leões, Évora 7000-730, Portugal and Laboratoire d’Ecologie Alpine, CNRS, Université J. Impact of urban land cover change on land surface temperature
The rapid growth in urban population is seen to create a need for the development of more urban infrastructures. In order to meet this need, natural surfaces such as vegetation are been replaced with non-vegetated surfaces such as asphalt and bricks which has the ability to absorb heat and release it later. This change in land cover is seen to increase the land surface temperature. Previous stu...
متن کاملPotential geographic distribution of Prangos ferulacea (L.) Lindl. in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari province under climate change scenarios
Prangos ferulacea (L.) Lindl is a perennial plant that besides fodder and medicinal values the plant can help to control soil erosion. There is little knowledge about the effect of climate change on the Prangos genus especially P. ferulacea. In this study, we used ensemble modeling based on five species distribution models to predict the potential effects of climate change on the future geograp...
متن کاملModeling the current and future suitable habitat distribution of Fritillaria imperialis under climate change scenarios and using three general circulation model in Iran
Climate change may pose challenges to the conservation of plant species such as the Fritillaria imperialis that have narrow geographical distribution. In this study, the modeling suitable habitats of F.imperialis in Iran was done in the current condition and under climate change (2050). For this purpose, 78 species presence data along with 12 environmental variables including bioclimatic, physi...
متن کاملModeling spatially varying landscape change points in species occurrence thresholds
Predicting species distributions at scales of regions to continents is often necessary, as largescale phenomena influence the distributions of spatially structured populations. Land use and land cover are important large-scale drivers of species distributions, and landscapes are known to create species occurrence thresholds, where small changes in a landscape characteristic results in abrupt ch...
متن کاملCombination of morphometric parameters and land cover for assessment of soil erosion susceptibility using COPRAS model in lavasanat watershed
Soil erosion is one of the major environmental problems worldwide. Morphometric and landcover analysis provides a platform for quick and efficient watershed management In the present study, morphometric parameters have been coupled with land cover classes to assess soil erosion susceptibility of sub-watersheds of lavasanat watershed. The data used in this study included Advanced Space borne T...
